An illustrated Geneva Bible housed in a contemporary binding. Complete Bible text in Roman font with maps, woodcuts, title pages, and original clasps.
Description
The general title page (1610) engraved within woodcut border comprising twenty-four compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. Title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Text in two column Roman font. Printed title page to the second part before Psalms with center ornament, head- and tailpiece. Apocrypha sometime removed. Complete set of woodcut illustrations and maps. New Testament title page (1610) similar to general title. Ends on colophon (1611). Bound with The Whole Booke of Psalmes by Sternhold and Hopkins (1612) lacking the final two leaves of the prayers. Woodcut first chapter initials, colophons, and decorative head- and tailpieces throughout.

Binding
Contemporary brown calf with blind-stamped central lozenge and brass clasps. Spine with four raised bands. Upper joint cracked but holding. All edges red.
Condition
Pp5 torn at head without loss; Qq7 small hole not impacting text; Kkk1,2 slight loss at foot reducing two lines of text; Nnn6 small portion at foot costing final line; light infrequent damp stain to gutter and lower margin; a clean text with good margins throughout.
