Description
Engraved general title page (1663) with architectural border, ruled in red. Text in two column Roman font with red ruling throughout. Without the Apocrypha, as issued. Printed New Testament title in triple red-ruled border (1662) with printer’s device. The text ends at Revelation 22:8, with the final leaf of Revelation and its subsequent blank leaf lacking.
Collation
A^8, A-Z^8, Aa-Zz^8, Aaa-Zzz^8, Aaaa-Llll^4 (-Llll3,4). Lacks final leaf of Revelation.
Binding
Contemporary gilt-paneled morocco. Board with concentric gilt panels with corner fleurons and drawer handle tools. Spine with five raised bands and elaborate gilt tooling to compartments. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt.
Condition
Lightly rubbed to joints with top of spine slightly chipped; clean and bright throughout with good margins; title page lightly stained to margins; Fff6-Ggg1 small lower corner stain just touching text; later name crossed out on verso of title page. A very example of the King James Bible printed at Cambridge in a lovely contemporary binding.
