Description
Two works bound in one. Title page with engraved border. Preface by Richard Taverner to the reader followed by an introductory table. A series of sermons referencing the Scripture verses with the arguments in Roman font and the bulk of the sermon in black letter. Ends with colophon (1540). Title page to the second work (1540) with floriated woodcut border. End with colophon (n.d.).

Binding
Rebacked brown calf. Boards ruled in blind with corner fleurons. Rebacked in matching brown calf with four blind-lined raised bands and a red morocco label with “Epistles and Gospelles” lettered in gilt. All edges speckled red.
Condition
Lightly rubbed. Lower edge of title and first few leaves chipped; a few sporadic stains but a very clean copy overall.
Note
Scarce. We can trace only 13 copies of each work in holdings. According to J. Holmes the original draft of this work is contained in a MS. In the British Museum. It is a translation, believed to have been made by Henry Parker Lord Morley, for the use of his kinswoman Anne Boleyn, presented to her in 1532. Two of the sermons were adopted by Archbishop Parker and published in the second book of Homilies.
