Missale Romanum.

Description
General title page with varnish and hand-colored woodcut of Agnus Dei and the printer’s device, with a gilt decorative tailpiece. Text printed in red and black with 36 lines to the full column. Extensively illustrated with 20 full-page woodcuts, 20 pages with text in woodcut border, 193 small woodcuts, and 76 floriated initials. Numerous leaves with musical notation.

Collation

aa-bb^8, a-p^8, pq^8, q-z^8, A-K^8. Lacks final blank leaf.

Pagination

[16], 263 [i.e. 271].

Binding

Ornately blind-stamped and gilt-paneled early twentieth-century calf with triple lined border. Spine with the words “Missale Romanum” in gilt. Marbled endpapers. All edges red. Housed in a red crushed morocco clamshell with gilt-tooling to sides and spine.

Condition

Occasional spotting or staining, just lightly browned; G-K marginal staining; corners worn, joints just starting, lightly rubbed.

Note

A scarce edition with 13 copies in Italian Libraries. The woodcuts were previously used in the 1501 Giunta Missal. A very nice post-incunable in an attractive binding and lovely clamshell.
