The Church of England recognized the scholarship and caliber of the Geneva Bibles. The notes, however, proved to be very critical of both the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church. Matthew Parker, Archbishop of Canterbury, led the project of updating the Great Bible. Scripture was divided into sections to be reviewed and updated independently by scholars, most of them bishops - resulting in the Bishop’s Bible.
We acquired this folio Bishops’ Bible at auction. The Bible had numerous lacking leaves and a binding in disrepair. Fortunately, we are now able to sell individual leaves which make a great gift idea or a display piece for your home.
