Cum gratia & priuilegio Regiae Maiestatis. , The border resembles that in the folio edition of 1578; with two symbolic female figures, the royal arms, the lion and dragon, and the initials C B ; the tablet is blank.
16th century Bibles are all too often found lacking their general title pages after being looted for their fine art work. In support, the example that was studied to create Herbert entry #159 was also lacking. Well executed !, COMPLETE.

THE OLD TESTAMENT, foliated 1-378, printed in beautiful Gothic Black letter type font with marginal notes printed in Roman type font, features wonderful floriated initials at the beginning of each book, No loose, missing, ripped or torn pages, the cotton linen paper is very bright, crisp and clean with strong corners, straight edges and clean gutters, wide margins all around extending well beyond the text, virtually free from damp staining, occasional and only very minor soiling that is much less than usual found, first leaf of Genesis with repaired blank footer margin without loss of scripture text but with loss of a few words of the notes, Very Good +, COMPLETE.

NEW TESTAMENT TITLE PAGE, 1 page, The New Testament of our Lord Jesus Christ, Conferred diligently with the Greeke, a best approved translations in divers languages. Imprinted at London by Christopher Barker, printer to the Queenes Majesty, 1579. Cum gratia privilege. The border resembles that in the folio edition of 1578; with two symbolical female figures, the royal arms, the lion and dragon, and the initials “CB” ; the tablet is blank. THE WHOLE BOOKE OF PSALMES COLLECTED INTO ENGLISHE METRE…, 8 pages of musical staves then paginated 1-92, ends with Psalm 138 so lacks the last few leaves, crisp and clean, Very Nice !

*** ABOUT THE BINDING ***

This ancient treasure is newly rebound in luxurious brown full leather . The covers are wonderfully extra blind stamped with several different tools. The spine has 4 raised cords creating five compartments containing a gold lined and stamped label "Holy Bible" and gold stamped date "1579". Beautifully hand marbled end sheets complete the restoration wonderfully.

An amazing Elizabethan First edition thus of the historic Geneva Bible with plenty of shelf appeal sure to delight both the soul and the senses !

We strive hard to acquire only those Bibles which we would like to collect ourselves, perform any needed restoration work professionally to archival standards and present them to you free from concerns.
