from the 1700's in a well preserved and
sound condition. This one was likely used to brin gto chruch services
as a Church Book. It has a full leather cover with blind stamped
decorations and two fully functional and brass/leather hasps/locks. The
Bible contains the complete text of the Old and New Testament ("Statenvertaling'). The
text of the Bible has various remarks on the side of the
text and contains a section with introductions to the books of the
It is bound with "het Boek der Psalmen" (book
of psalms), with all Biblical psalms set to music and "Met
Enige andere Lofsangen", a collection of hymns used in the Churches
services - printed in 1723. The last section of this extensive Bible
contains a Catechism.
Nicely engraved title page, and numerous woodcut devices and initials.

binding is holding firmly and is in very good condition, with just
some light wear and rubbing to surface / extremities, corners
bumped, foot of spine abraded, a few light ink spots and marks
including spray of ink splats to fore edge. Text block is firm and
square, contents largely in good crisp condition with some general
light toning / foxing, pale water staining at edges at points. Joint
a touch strained after title leaf, the latter somewhat creased and
nicked: Fo. 230 in Job with lower corner roughly torn through
letterpress and with some considerable loss, reaffixed with a few
sections of tape to verso: Fo. 78 in Romans with portion of lower
margin torn away causing slight loss to letterpress. Period plain
endpapers, some early 18th c ownership markings in Dutch to upper
attractive and appealing antique Dutch Bible and Psalter/Hymnal of
almost 300 years old!
