THIS IS THE LEGENDARY BREECHES BIBLE
translated in Genesis 3:7 as "and they sowed figge-tree leaves
together, and made themselves breeches."
The accepted meaning is "coverings" (the KJV has "aprons").
The Bible : that is, the holy Scriptures contained in the Old and
London: Imprinted by Robert Barker, Printer to the Kinges Most
Excellent Maiestie. Cum Privilegio, 1607.
A truly fascinating find, this is a RARE Geneva FOLIO Holy Bible.
This edition of the Geneva Bible, printed by Robert Barker in
London, presents itself in a folio format, bound in a later
attractive gilt black leather spine, with HOLY BIBLE, BARKER, MDCVII
in gilt; the boards in slightly worn cloth and leather corners;
hinges and binding intact, strong and nicely preserved. Page edges
are also stained an attractive red. The Bible is complete and
carries all of its original content, including a stunning engraved
main title in front, a full page illustration of Adam and Eve, a
handful of in-text beautiful woodcut maps, woodcuts, initials,
devices and more. Present are a complete Old Testament, the
Apocrypha, and all of the New Testament. Within, the Bible has some
minor instances of a few small scattered stains and inkings, the
main title in front with small corner loss and archival repairs done
very nicely. Bound with a Concordance at the rear, also complete
with the colophon matching the NT title and front title, dated 1607.
No EP in front, as bound, but with decorative pastedowns and rear
EP/pastedowns. Retaining all title pages, a seldom seen complete
folio and a sure catch for anyone's collection.
